DIY Bronze Bookends

Hey friends! Today I’m sharing some fun DIY Bronze Bookends that I painted a few days ago! We had some new built-in shelving custom built in our basement and I have been putting together some fun projects to add to them and I’ve also been collecting decor to help fill up all the shelves! (I’ll be sharing the full decorated built-ins next week!)

Back to the bookends though! I put together two different sets of bronze bookends, both using the NEW Americana Decor Metallics paint in Antique Bronze that I got from Hobby Lobby!

My first set I took a set of old dog statues I had on hand and added a few coats of the Americana Decor Metallics paint in Antique Bronze on top of them! The first two coats I covered the entire statue with a pretty solid coat of the paint. Granted, the very first coat you could still see quite a bit of the black sneaking through. The second coat gave it almost complete coverage. I liked having a TINY bit of the black poking through different parts though, so on the 3rd coat I was a little more specific where I added the paint!

If you look closely, you’ll see what I mean. You can sort of see a little bit of the black poking through, and I really loved how that looked!

I’m super happy with how they turned out! They’re going to add a fun charm to my built-in shelves downstairs!

The second set, I got a little more creative! A few weeks ago I was cleaning out my storage room and came across this RIMFORSA Bamboo Basket from IKEA. I love the shape of it, but honestly I have only used it once. I wanted to bring different shapes and textures to my bookshelf and had this idea to cut the basket into two pieces and make them bookends!

The way the basket comes, the sides are removeable. So, I used some super glue to glue them into place!

I went ahead and gave the wood a really rough sand and then applied 3 coats of paint. I think they turned out pretty cool and I love that the shape and texture are so unique!

They have a rougher finish, but I liked that part of it! I felt it added a more antique look and almost makes you wonder if they’re metal instead of wood!

I am super happy with both sets and I love that they’re going to add such fun personality to my built-in shelves! The NEW Americana Decor Metallics paint from Hobby Lobby are so fun and I’m sure I am going to find lots of more fun projects using all the different colors they have!

If you love this DIY, I’d love for you to pin the below image! Thanks friends!
