My Caleb loves to golf…like a lot! For his 9th birthday I surprised him with this cake.
He loved it! Cakes and I don’t normally get along very well so I was pretty stoked with how this cake turned out! Must be because I just decided to leave it in the pan rather than try to make nice edges. Nice edges, cake, and I don’t happen 🙂
It was super easy to do. Just bake the cake and allow to cool completely. Then I used a circle cookie cutter to cut the hole out. When I pulled the cake out it wasn’t pretty. The bottom part came out whole though so I turned it upside down where it was smooth and put it back in. Then I made buttercream frosting and before I dyed it green I put a very thin layer of white over the whole cake. You could still see through the white, I just wanted to seal the cake so it stayed moist. Then I put a small closed star tip on my icing back, dyed the frosting green, and squeezed a little bit out, pushed gently down, and then lifted up. That gave the green grass shape. It took me about 30 minutes to do and gave me a serious hand cramp!
Cant believe he is growing up so fast!
