Hey everyone, this is Lauren visiting from Tastes Better From Scratch, and I’m excited to share this simple, delicious California Hot Dogs recipe with you!
I’ve got to be honest right up front–hot dogs have never been my favorite. They’re usually the last thing I’d choose at a barbecue. HOWEVER, these California Hot Dogs are the huge exception! My mom made these all of the time growing up and we loved them–probably because they have all sorts of yummy toppings, like cheese, tomato, avocado, onion, and sprouts! (Yes, you read that right, I said SPROUTS!) The alfalfa sprouts are by far my favorite part of these hot dogs–they give them the yummiest little crunch.
This is one of the easiest meals to throw together, and California Hot Dogs are so much tastier than traditional hot dogs! Plus, you get to sneak in some vegetables for your kids. And I love any meal that keeps my oven OFF during the hot summer months! Serve these with a side of traditional potato salad, or grilled corn on the cob, and you’ve got a tasty, easy summer meal!
- 4 all-beef hot dogs
- 4 hamburger buns
- 2 cups alfalfa sprouts
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 avocado, diced
- ketchup and mustard, to taste
- Grill hot dogs on hot grill. Once cooked, place them in the buns. Layer them with cheese, onions, avocado, tomato and alfalfa sprouts. Top with ketchup and mustard. Enjoy!
