Most of my Christmas decor is rustic and very vintage for Christmas. I love the very natural and primitive look for Christmas. It seems so fitting for me since the reason we celebrate the season started in such humble circumstances. But then I see all of the fun bright colored more modern Christmas decor and I love it too! I’ve come to a compromise in our house by doing my kitchen in a bright gingerbread theme! I collected a whole bunch of things last year in the after Christmas sales to help tie my existing decor all together in my kitchen.
I really wanted to make a candy garland to put on top of my cabinets. I bought a really cheap green garland at Walmart and folded it in half to make it more full. I love deco meshand found some that reminded me of a candy cane that was perfect!
I used pipe cleaners to secure the mesh to the greenery. First I wired it to the end. Then I wrapped one of the pieces of greenery around to hide the pipe cleaner.
I continued to do that until it was down the whole garland.
Then using wire I added ornaments, candy ornaments, and cookie cutters.
Then I draped it over the cabinets.
With a few other fun elements it really all came together!
The Santa boot was made by my Mom and the vintage candy can was my Moms for as long as I can remember.
It really ties all together with my Moms lighted candy garland that I made last year.
