Happy Friday friends! I know you probably rarely hear this, but I am SO excited for Winter to come! I love the snow and am ready for it! My husband is hot chocolate obsessed and he has passed that love onto our kiddos! So, during the winter months I always have the stuff on hand to make hot chocolate! Today I am going to share with you my go-to hot chocolate recipe that I found last year, along with these fun whipped cream spoons that my kids love!
I think one of the reasons I love hot chocolate is because all the memories I have of hot chocolate are good! The kids have generally been outside playing in the snow and they come in all red cheeked and happy! We sit around laugh, tell snow stories and sip on our delicious hot chocolate! I literally get a smile on my face even thinking about it!
Also, the whipped cream spoons are always a hit and super easy to put together! Really a must in my opinion! I will get the stuff out and make them right when the kids go outside to play in the snow or before we go sledding, so they’re all ready when we come back inside! The kids always ask for a few too, so make sure to make extra!
Now, let’s start with the Hot Chocolate recipe!
3 tablespoons Cocoa Powder
2 1/2 cups Horizon Organic Whole Milk
2 1/2 cups Horizon Organic Half & Half
1 cup semisweet chocolate (finely chopped) or semisweet chocolate chips
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
Bring 1/2 cup water to a simmer and add in the 3 tablespoons Cocoa Powder. Mix until totally incorporated.
Add the 2 1/2 cups Horizon Organic Whole Milk and 2 1/2 cups Horizon Half and Half and bring back to a simmer.
Add in the 1 cup semisweet chocolate and 3 tablespoons Sugar and mix until full melted and incorporated!
Taste and add anything you feel it needs to get it to your liking! My kids will sometimes request a little more half and half!
Now, onto the fun part – the Whipped Cream Spoons!
1 Cup Horizon Organic Heavy Whipping Cream
1 teaspoon Vanilla Bean Paste
1 tablespoons Sugar
Add all three ingredients to a bowl and mix with a hand mixer on high until it starts to thick and the whip cream stays in peaks! Do not over beat!
Take a ziplock bag and fill it with the whipped cream. Cut the corner off to create your own pasty bag. Squeeze whipped cream on a plastic spoon.
Feel free to top with whatever you like! I generally like to use my zester to zest the tops with a piece of chocolate or cinnamon!
Put in the fridge for 5 minutes or until ready to serve!
