Lisa’s 2012 Family Theme and Dinner

This will be the third year our family is doing a Family Theme for the year. John and I spend a couple of weeks thinking about and discussing a virtue or characteristic that our family needs to work on. Two years ago it was Gratitude, and last year it was Peaceful. After we pick our theme we find a scripture to go along with it. Our 2012 theme is Patience.

We also have a big fancy family dinner on New Years where we introduce our theme for the year. We set the table with our beautiful china and break out the boy’s silver cups and forks they got when they were born from Grandma and Grandpa. Davis really wanted Spaghetti this year and I couldn’t argue with his big brown eyes.

John gives a big toast before we eat! Being able to “cheers” our apple cider is the boys favorite part!

At dinner we talked about how being patient with someone is showing them love and kindness. John and I each shared ways we are going to work on being more patient with them, and we had each boy share a way they could be more patient with each other. Lastly we talked about how we also need to show patience with ourselves, and how we all make mistakes but we need to not get frustrated with ourselves as we learn and grow.

Whenever we use our china we try to teach them more formal table manners. It usually works pretty well….but not with spaghetti!

Yep, that’s their best table manners 🙂 It was a sweet night. Good food, good resolutions, and a good bike ride! I can tell its going to be a great year!

If you want to print off the Patience printable you can here:

I also am sharing the blank PSD file. You can download the blank one and add your own theme.

Happy New Year!

  • >Now I am really frustrated! I thought about calling you an asking you for the cute simple back ground you used for your theme. Then I thought, I could totally make my own. After 77 minutes, really, I made mine own. I am fairly proud of myself. Then I look on this blog and you are sharing! Just think of what could I have done in those 77 minutes….
