With school about back in, I thought it would be fun to share the Perfect Mixed Berry Smoothie – which is my kids favorite!! It’s hands down their favorite after school snack (at least until the snow comes) too! And honestly, it’s just an all time favorite for our entire family!. It has even been making pretty regular appearances this summer!
My boys walk in the door from school HUNGRY! They both eat lunch around 11:30am at their school. So, by the time they ride the bus home, they’re starving! If I don’t take it upon myself to make something with a little nutrition for them, then they’ll try and sneak the treats from the pantry! But, I really don’t love to mess up my kitchen. I mean I start dinner just an hour and half or two hours after they get home. So, this Mixed Berry Smoothie is a my favorite thing to make. It fill their little bellies up and I can literally make and clean it up in 5 minutes!
With school starting in a couple weeks, we’ve been working hard on getting back on a good schedule. Not just the kids, but ALL of us! haha! That means back to actual grocery shopping (with a planned list and everything) and cooking dinner! We started last week by going to Walmart and I’m happy to report I actually cooked 4 nights last week! I also stocked up on all smoothie supplies! If you’re new to smoothie making – frozen fruit is your friend! Then you’ll also want to pick up some yogurt, honey and bananas! The yogurt and honey really do add so much flavor to the smoothie! But, if you want to leave them out, then that is totally fine!
I always buy Horizon® Organic Whole Milk. My kids are growing and I like to buy products that make me feel good as a mother. Their milk comes from cows not given growth hormones* or antibiotics, raised on farms that follow sustainable organic practices. And Horizon® Organic Yogurt offers live and active cultures.
Once you have all the ingredients, you’ll just throw them in a blender and blend it all together until it is smooth! The great thing about smoothies is they are super easy to customize too! So, feel free to adjust anything in the recipe you’d like! Honestly, when I’m short on time, I love to make myself a smoothie for lunch. Before we started smoothie making, I would often times skip lunch. But, now I throw myself in a smoothie or throw a little granola in a Horizon® Organic Vanilla Yogurt!
- 1 cup Horizon® Organic Milk
- 1 Horizon® Organic Yogurt
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries (I used a strawberry & blueberry mix)
- 1 banana, peeled
- 2 tablespoons Honey
- Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
After I made these smoothies, I ran upstairs to change the laundry. When I came back to snap some pictures of my boys with their smoothies, I was apparently too late! They had both sucked their glasses dry!
