Hula Hoop Spiderweb - this is such an affordable and easy DIY Halloween craft! Full tutorial on www.overthebigmoon.com!

Create this awesome DIY Spider Web using just a Hula Hoop, Twine and some Spray Paint! This makes a perfect indoor or outdoor decoration during Halloween!

Hey guys! It’s Kari from Rad + the Rest (previously Life PreKarious) here with this fun DIY Hula Hoop Spider Web, perfect for Halloween!

DIY HALLOWEEN DECORATION

Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this super fun and easy craft!

Start by removing the decorative covering from the Hula Hoop. It comes off pretty easy – like a sticker. Place the hula hoop on the ground.

HOW TO MAKE A SPIDER WEB OUT OF TWINE

Next it’s time to start with the twine. To start, make a small circle with your jute twine and lay it in the middle of your hula hoop on the ground. This circle will be the center of the spider web. Also, don’t stress about having it be perfectly in the middle, no spider web is perfectly symmetrical.

Begin tying pieces to the circle that is laying in the middle of the hula hoop and extend them out to the hula hoop. Once the length is determined, add a few extra inches and then cut the twine. Then tie it on to the hula hoop.

Don’t worry about the excess twine, you can trim that up later.

Next, you’ll weave more twine in a circular motion around the pieces you just added. As you come to each piece of Jute Twin that extends from the circle to the Hula Hoop, just circle around it and keep going. No need to tie anything!

When you get to the edge, tie it off and trim all your edges.

Lastly, spray paint the entire thing black on both sides. Feel free to attach items, like a large spider to your spider web. Hot glue works great to attach items!

DIY Spider Web

Create this awesome DIY Spider Web using just a Hula Hoop, Twine and some Spray Paint! This makes a perfect indoor or outdoor decoration during Halloween!
Prep Time1 hour hr
Total Time1 hour hr
Yield: 1 Hula Hoop Spider Web

Materials

  • 1 Hula Hoop
  • 1 Roll Jute Twine any color
  • 1 Can Black Spray Paint
  • 1 Pair Scissors

Instructions

  • Start by removing the decorative covering from the Hula Hoop. It comes off pretty easy - like a sticker. Place the hula hoop on the ground.
  • Next it's time to start with the twine. To start, make a small circle with your jute twine and lay it in the middle of your hula hoop on the ground. This circle will be the center of the spider web. Also, don't stress about having it be perfectly in the middle, no spider web is perfectly symmetrical.
  • Then, begin tying pieces to the circle that is laying in the middle of the hula hoop and middle and extend them out to the hula hoop. Once the length is determined, add a few extra inches and then cut the twine. Then tie it on to the hula hoop. Don't worry if there is overhang, you can trim that up later!
  • Next, you'll weave more twine in a circular motion around the pieces you just added. As you come to each piece of Jute Twin that extends from the circle to the Hula Hoop, just circle around it and keep going. No need to tie anything!
  • When you get to the edge, tie it off and trim all your edges.
  • Lastly, spray paint the entire thing black on both sides. I also attached a big spider that I found at the dollar store using a hot glue gun.

Notes

* I chose to use Jute twine for a few reasons. First, the black yard kept breaking and I knew that if I put the DIY Spider Web outside that it would weather easier. Second, I loved the look of the Jute Twine -- it looks scraggily and worn!

It turned out so fun over my Halloween entry way table!

CAN YOU HANG THE DIY HULA HOOP OUTSIDE?

Absolutely! However I suggest hanging it over a covered area! It will weather better! You can hang it anywhere, but if you live in a windy area, it may not last more than a year or two!

Wow! This is so ingeniously easy and cheap! I love how inexpensive this was to make. I saw those spiders at the Dollar Tree just a few weeks ago and was thinking they would be perfect for some kind of craft! Lucky for me I bought some. 🙂 Now I can get crafting!
