My kids love how we countdown to Christmas so much that I wanted to create a countdown for Valentines Day.

My boys are so excited!

On the inside of each chain there is a number and a handwritten note from me. Here is a sample of what the numbers look like inside.

3 to 6

I also have included two different toppers for the countdown:

For John I did the 14 Reasons I love you, and for my boys I did the 14 Reasons I love being their Mom. All I ever wanted to be growing up was to be a Mom! Sometimes in the day to day frustrations I think the joy of motherhood can be missed (or totally forgotten on certain days!) No matter what though, I want my boys to know that I love being their Mom!

To put the countdown together I started with cute scrapbook paper, not cardstock and I made sure the back was white. I used 5 different patterns.

Because I wanted  to run the paper through the printer I cut them down to 8 ½ x 11 and then I printed the countdown on the backs of the paper. I was making 4 different chains and I wanted the chain to alternate the pattern. To get that effect I had to print each new sheet on a different pattern. So I printed the same sheet onto 4 different patterns. I did the same for the rest of the days.

Once I had them printed I cut them apart.

Then I laid them out on the ground to make sure each chain looked right.

I put them into their individual stacks and clipped them together. I took each stack one at a time and wrote all the different reasons on them.

I wanted the pattern to show and hide the messages so I scored the papers in half.

You can just fold them but I love how clean the fold looks when it is scored.

To make the topper I backed the printed topper onto one of the extra patterned paper. I also wrote their name in the heart.

Then I stapled each strip together. For the top strip I wanted to attach it to the topper so I left the overlap bigger and stapled it to the back like this:

You can download and make your own. It wasn’t that hard to do and it looks so fun and cute! If you want a little simpler idea check out Pam’s countdown here. You could also just print this onto plain colored papers to make it simpler.

14 Reasons I love you

Happy Valentines Day!

This is so adorable! I love it. Pinned it so I remember to do this when my kids are a little older.
