I grew up with a very fancy Grandma – fancy as in her house slippers were high heeled and full of feathers. That was how she rolled! As a little girl I loved her flashy jewelry and over the top outfits. She also loved to eat at fancy restaurants and would take us with her. She always ordered us kids a Shirley Temple and I loved them as a little girl! Anytime we went out to a restaurant we begged our parents for Shirley Temples, even when we were teenagers!
Then the night John and I announced that we were engaged was the night of my Moms huge 50th birthday party and we were giddy! We celebrated and each drank about 10 Shirley Temples from the bar that night! We roll pretty wild around this house 🙂
A few years later when we were poor students with a baby and didn’t get out much I learned how to make a Shirley Temples on my own. John and I would date in our living room with our “fancy” drinks.
I have so many memories with this drink, and now my kids love them as much as I do! Its a perfect drink for Valentines day with kids! They are super simple to make. All you need is Sprite, Maraschino cherries, and Grenadine Syrup.
Mix about 1 Tbsp Grenadine Syrup to about 1 cup of Sprite and drop in a few cherries. You can change the proportions to your taste. My proportions happen to contain large amounts of cherries!
They are the best part!

Such a fun memory. When we went out to dinner, my Dad would order a Shirley Temple for me and a Roy Rogers for my brother.

OMG! I loved Shirley Temples as a kid too! I almost feel embarrassed to order them as an adult, but now I know I’m not alone. I may order one next time.

Where do you get Grenadine syrup from?
Lisa
Its found in grocery stores in the drinks aisle near the mixers. I have always been able to find it at my local grocery store or Walmart.

Lisa, this has brought such a smile on my face. As a little girl, my grandmother would always let me order a Shirley Temple at the country club. Oh how I miss her so much. Thanks Lisa!!!
