A fun and simple idea to give to the teachers in your life as a First Day of School Gift! Back to School time is stressful and I think every teacher could use some carry-out dinner, caffeine, and chocolate!

I have always loved the tradition of taking a simple and fun gift to my kids’ teachers on the first day of school! We all know how much work it is getting ready for the new school year and then teaching a whole classroom of kids new classroom rules and procedures! So, I love to theme gifts around making their lives a little bit easier that first week of school!

A Gift Tag that says, "A Little Something to "C" You Through the First Week of School... Carry Out, Caffeine & Chocolate. The tag is attached to a mason jar that is filled with treats and a couple gift cards.

*This post was originally published in April 2014 and has been updated with new pictures and a better tutorial.

The theme for this teacher gift idea is items to “C” your teacher through their first week! The gift tag reads “A little something to “C” you through the first week of school… Carry Out, Caffeine and Chocolate.”

I’ve shared a few other fun gift ideas that would work for the first day of school, like this Back to School Teacher Gift, this Book Donations & Gift Card, and Netflix and Grade Gift Basket!

Now let’s put together this fun gift idea! And don’t forget to download the gift tag at the bottom of this post!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL GIFT IDEA

Items Needed:

  • 32 oz Mason Jar (I prefer wide mouth)
  • Assorted Candy
  • 2 Gift Cards (somewhere for carry out and somewhere for caffeine)
  • Printable Gift Tag (download below)
  • Printer
  • Cardstock (or printer paper, but cardstock is better)
  • Colored Cardstock (for backing)
  • Twine

Directions:

Start by download the gift tag below. It will download in .jpg format. Once downloaded, print on your printer at home. I suggest printing it on cardstock if you can.

Use a paper cutter or scissors to cut out the gift tag.

A table with crafting items. On the left is a navy blue piece of colored cardstock with a printed page of gift tags. On the right is a paper cutter.

If your gift tag was printed on regular paper, I suggest backing the gift tag with colored cardstock.

Grab your mason jar and put your two gift cards down in it, so they are visible. Make sure one of your gift cards is for a food place that can be considered “carry out” dinner and one that would be considered “caffeine”. For the caffeine gift card, consider a place Starbucks or a soda shop!

A mason jar filled with mini candy bars and Hershey kisses and in the side of the jar are two gift cards. One gift card is to Pizza Hut and the other is to Star Bucks.

I like to add a little circle of paper on the top of the mason jar too!

A mason jar lid with piece of blue polka dotted card stock cut out in a circle laying on top of the lid.

BACK TO SCHOOL TEACHER GIFT

Add this gift tag to any type of treat (that includes chocolate of course) for your teacher. When you attach, don’t forget to add the gift cards for the ‘caffeine’ and ‘carry-out!’ The best way to attach the gift tag and gift cards is to punch a hole in the corner of the gift tag and use baker’s twine!

Do you have this tag without the word “carryout”? I thought I found it somewhere, but there was nowhere to click on a link to download.

This is super cute & would work great with the takeout boxes I got at Noodles & Company. Would you be willing to share an editable form? I am a principal of a school and we are the Sailors. I would love to tweak it a little.
