One of the traditions our Cub Scout Pack has is each year, at the Blue & Gold Banquet, the Cubs and their Father’s do a Father & Son Cake Bake. There are no rules – they just make a cake that they want and then we judge them and give out fun awards! It’s something that the boys love to do in our Pack and I always look forward to seeing what they are going to create!
Basically, all the boys that participated line up their cakes and we give each cake a number. To make it simple, I just fold cardstock into table tents and wrote numbers on them. Then, we have one small piece of paper for each person (kids and parents) and they vote for their favorite cake by writing the cake number on the paper and then turn it in. We have a small prize and certificate for the cake voted SCOUTS CHOICE and all the other cakes earn a certificate with a fun name and a small treat as well! No one goes home empty handed!
This year, I wanted to come up with a simple printable for the cake awards, that already had many of the award names already printed on them! I wanted to share that with you today! There are 30 named awards and then a page of blank awards, where you can write a name in. Hope this helps if your Pack also does this tradition or you are wanting to start it!
I also created a very simple Sign-In Sheet. This can be used as the boys bring their cakes in and you can document which number you assign to each boy. And, then I have a line next to their name and number to write what award you end up assigning them. That way you can make sure every boy gets assigned an award and it helps with keeping things organized!
Typically at a Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet a full dinner is served, but this year we decided to do a fun Ice Cream Bar to serve with the boys cakes and then we had a Magican Duo come and do a magic show for the boys! It went over really well and was a lot of fun! All and all our 2013 Blue and Gold was a huge success!!
