Hey friends! This summer I have been hooked on trifles! I think there is something so pretty about them and they just lighten up almost any dessert! My husband isn’t a huge dessert fan, but the man loves Strawberry Shortcake! And he likes it even more since I started putting together this Strawberry Shortcake Cream Cheese Trifle!
Here’s what ya need:
- Shortcake (you can make you own or buy one)
- 1 large carton of Strawberries
- 2 containers of Cool Whip
- 2 8oz cream cheese, softened
- ¾ cup sugar
- Clear smaller cups
Start by cutting (or ripping) your shortcake into little bite size pieces. Then you’ll cut up your strawberries into small pieces. Feel free to leave a few of the smaller ones to top your trifle if you want! Or you can just layer on a few of the cut up pieces!
Then you’ll need to make my easy cream cheese fruit dip, which will be one of the layers. The cream cheese layer is what makes this trifle EXTRA good! You can click over to this post to see the full instructions! If you’re only making trifles, then you can cut the fruit dip recipe in half and it should be enough!
Then you’r ready to start layering! I layer in this order – bottom to top!
Bottom layer: Shortcake
Then: Fruit Dip
Then: Cool Whip
REPEAT through all layers again!
Feel free to make the layers as thick as you want. But, I have found I prefer doing the 8 thinner layers! That way no one layer overtakes the taste in your mouth!
If you’re making these in advance, I suggest only making them a few hours ahead and make sure you keep them in the fridge! This should allow the cream cheese layer to stay cold enough that it won’t saturate the shortcake and make it soggy!
I hope you enjoy this tasty treat! It’s seriously so good and the perfect light dessert!
